Dog Lovers Days 2015

BJHS would like to thank all those who attended Dog Lovers Days in Meaford on September 5 & 6/15 here in Meaford at the William Croft Athletic field.

The pooches had a blast at the lure course, doggie play zone and just generally liked all the attention, not to mention the treats! We had some star performers being filmed for #TricksForJoe, so be sure to check back at our Facebook page as we update it with videos ovder the coming weeks.

Lastly, thank you to all for their support of the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society.

Lots of action in the pool and great competitions both poolside and in the water.  Thanks to all who attended, and we know you had a 'barking' good time.

Blessing of the Animals

2015 Blessing This gentle service has been celebrated over the years, and conducted by a variety of local clergy in Meaford.
BJHS is very thankful for the support of the local churches and their willingness to oversee this much-loved service.

Tricks For Joe

Hi, and welcome to the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society website. I’d like to share a story with you. This is Brownie, and Brownie lived in Meaford, Ontario. She is seen here admiring the statue of her friend, Beautiful Joe. Joe was a real life dog from Meaford whose story of abuse and rescue captured the hearts of millions of people in the 1893 best-selling novel “Beautiful Joe” by Canadian author, Margaret Marshall Saunders. Joe’s story helped change the world's view of dogs from mere animals to beloved companions. The Municipality of Meaford has a whole park dedicated to their hero Beautiful Joe. Brownie often likes to visit and pay her respects to Joe in Beautiful Joe Park to thank him for the wonderful life she and other dogs enjoy today. Brownie used to live in the house of the family that rescued Joe and she’d like to honour him with a trick and raise donations for the goals of:
• Promoting and celebrating the humane treatment of all animals
• Establishing Beautiful Joe as Canada's Most Famous Dog, and
• Meaford becoming known internationally as the Home of Beautiful Joe

Beautiful Joe's "Santa Paws Walk" past the Meaford Longterm Care Centre
We are looking for 10 - 25 dogs and their people to participate in this walk past their dining-room.
When:   Sat., Dec. 19th      Time: 11:45 a.m.
Where:  Meet at William and Thompson St. -  previously the old Meaford Factory Outlet Mall / now Canadian Pet Connection's parking lot.  We will walk along the sidewalk, with social distancing, from there to Meaford's Long Term Care Centre and do a 'parade' past their dining-room windows.

What to wear?  A big smile - and of course, warm clothes, preferably with a Santa hat.  If your pooches have festive attire, dress them up!  The residents (and staff) will love it!  We are the outdoor 'walk by' entertainment while they enjoy their lunch.

(Masks recommended even though we are outdoors).  Your smile may not show, but your happy attitude will!

Want to join the walk?  RSVP to   Let us know that you are coming and how many people / dogs will be walking with you.

Enjoy reading and participating in my website and if you would like to tell us your animal companion story or volunteer for our Society we’d love to hear from you (you should see my tail wagging just thinking about it), please send us an email or friend us on Facebook,
